2000 onwards
In 2000, Kian Soon Hoe switched from importing live chickens to buying dressed
(slaughtered) chickens from KSB Distribution for distribution to its customers.
On 1 January 2003, KSB Distribution assumed Kian Soon Hoe's distribution
business.
The acquisition of Soonly also enabled KSB Distribution to expand beyond selling chickens; it became a one-stop processor and distributor of fresh chicken products. In August 2001, KSB Distribution obtained an ISO 9002 certification for its quality management system in supplying and distributing chicken products. This was subsequently upgraded to ISO 9001 in January 2004.
Chew Koh's long awaited vision was completed when Elite KSB Holdings was incorporated as a holding company in 2001. A restructuring exercise also took place to acquire Soonly as a wholly-owned subsidiary of our Company.
In the same year, KSB Distribution acquired adjacent premises at 6 Senoko Way to realise its expansion plans, including augmenting further processing services and attaining HACCP certification for its food safety system. The new facilities were purpose-built to create an uninterrupted cold chain system, a crucial step in ensuring food safety and quality. Besides mezzanine floors and processing rooms, two freezers were added to the new premises to prepare for our entry into the frozen food business. Our total processing floor area more than doubled with all these improvements. Our plant too became fully operational in December 2002.
In April 2002, we entered into a business partnership agreement with PERGAS Co-operative, the business arm of the Singapore Islamic Scholars and Religious Teachers' Association. As our consultant, PERGAS Co-operative strengthens our ability to comply with the requirements of Syariah law and Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) regulations on an on-going basis, thereby giving our Muslim customers the added assurance and confidence in our halal products.
Fulfilling our desire to provide more choices to our customers, we expanded our frozen food business in late 2003, offering frozen beef and mutton, in addition to frozen chicken. This diversification further enhances our ability to serve our customers as a one-stop processor and distributor of meat products.
Both Soonly and KSB Distribution became wholly-owned subsidiaries of Elite KSB Holdings in the last quarter of 2003.
